Lauren Gniadek, Occupational Therapist
Lauren is an occupational therapist from O’Fallon, Missouri.
Her passion for working with children began in high school when she taught children of all ages and abilities to swim. Upon being given the opportunity to teach children with various disabilities to swim and obtain their water safety goals she knew she had a special place in her heart not only for working with children but more specifically children with disabilities. After researching careers she found that occupational therapy would allow her the opportunity to work with this population on a daily basis. After job shadowing and learning more about occupational therapy she determined it would be the perfect career for her and set out determined to reach her goal. Along the journey to becoming an occupational therapist, she found a deep love for working with children on the autism spectrum. She perused working with this population through completing an internship and graduate assistantship with The Thompson Center (Columbia Missouri’s center for autism and neurodevelopmental disorders) and volunteering with the occupational therapy department SWIM program (a program developed to teach swimming and water instruction for children with autism spectrum disorder).
Lauren has experience working with children ages 6 months to 21 years old, with a wide range of diagnoses, including autism spectrum disorder, in acute hospital, outpatient, and school settings. She embodies the core values of Blue Stars Therapy, as she has strong interpersonal skills which allow her to form strong therapeutic relationships with each child and family she works with. In collaboration with each therapist on her child's team, Lauren develops individualized treatment interventions to engage the child in age-appropriate occupations, including play, personal independence, and socialization with peers.
